LRA host Chinese delegation

1st September, 2011

Land Research Associates today hosted a visit from a delegation of local government heads from Yunnan Province in south-west China. They came to discuss issues of soil protection from damage and erosion. Two presentations were given, interactively translated into Mandarin Chinese by an interpreter accompanying the delegation:

Bob Palmer: Effect of modern agricultural land management on soil and erosion risk.
Malcolm Reeve: Protection and reinstatement of soils disturbed by construction and mineral working.

There were clear comparisons with experience in China but, during discussions, the visitors expressed surprise that UK Codes of Practice for protecting soils were not legally binding.
